Attractions in Eureka Springs, ArkansasThere are a variety of things to see and do when visiting this "Victorian village".
If you love arts & crafts, it doesn't get much better than historic Eureka Springs. Intricate jewelry, beautiful oil paintings, amazing sculptures, and delicate hand blown glass are just a few examples of the arts & crafts you can expect to find. The availability of these exquisite arts has made way for a variety of art galleries and specialty stores where you can not only see these lovely pieces on display, but you can also find one-of-a-kind works of art for your very own. These shops and galleries have become some of the top Eureka Springs attractions, and so have the area's arts & crafts fairs and music festivals. One of Eureka's most popular music festivals is their Blues Festival where you can listen to a variety of Blues artists at several local locations throughout the festival period. Those who have an appreciation for architecture, especially Victorian architecture, will certainly find it throughout Eureka Springs. But Victorian architecture isn't the only style you'll see here. One of the most notable structures in the area is Thorncrown Chapel. Fondly referred to as "Ozark Gothic" by its architect, E. Fay Jones, Thorncrown is listed as number four on the American Institute of Architecture's top ten buildings of the 20th century. Mentored by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright, the late architect E. Fay Jones was recognized as one of the top ten living architects of the 20th century. Another amazing structure to be seen is the Christ of the Ozarks statue. Standing seven stories tall (1500 ft) and weighing over two million pounds, the statue was sculpted by the late Emmett Sullivan who also helped sculpt Mount Rushmore. On the grounds of the statue you'll also find America's #1 attended outdoor drama-The Great Passion Play. Featuring state of the art sound and lighting and historically accurate stage settings, The Great Passion Play portrays the events that took place the last week in the incarnation of Jesus of Nazareth, including his death and resurrection. Within Eureka Springs you'll find jamborees and hoedowns to entertain and delight you and Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge where you can see lions, tigers, cougars and other large cats. You'll also find a working water powered gristmill (The War Eagle Mill), a trolley, and a train tour where you can dine in luxury as you ride the rails. There's even a ghost tour that takes you through haunted homes, cemeteries, mansions, and the historic Crescent Hotel (featured on the SciFi Channel's "Ghost Hunters"). After a hard day of shopping, sight seeing, and ghost hunting, it's time for relaxation. Thank goodness for the 'healing' waters of Eureka Springs where you can enjoy massages, mineral baths, facials, reflexology, and even aromatherapy. Who would've thought there were so many activities in Eureka Springs! |
